Isson Tanaka is a Japanese-style painter who was attracted by the nature of the southern tropical islands in Japan and moved from mainland Japan to Amami Oshima when he was 50. He spent a very simple life working as a Tsumugi silk dye craftsman while he kept painting Amami's animals and plants before passing away at the age of 69. Visitors can explore the house where the painter passed away. For his great art works, visit Tanaka Isson Memorial Art Museum in Kasari, Amami City.
