Edateku Island

Edateku Island at the entrance of Yakeuchi Bay is the largest uninhabited island in Amami. It is said to be the birthplace of the venomous Habu snake, and the island has served as a barrier to protect the residents of Uken against the strong typhoon winds. Islanders consider it to be a revered place where the gods reside.
